Rene Levy

René H. Levy, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutics and Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. He served as department chair for 26 years, published 330 research articles and several books on the treatment of epilepsy, and received several scientific awards. Dr. Levy has applied his neuroscience background to understand divisiveness and fracturing of the American Jewish community around “the issue of Israel.” He authored a book called Baseless Hatred: What It Is and What You Can Do About It (Gefen Publishing, Jerusalem). In 2013 he addressed the Seattle Jewish community at a Town Hall event entitled “Crisis in Jewish Peoplehood.” With a group of volunteers, he founded the Project for Applied Peoplehood & Jewish Unity (www.seattlepeoplehood.com). He has authored a novel curriculum to enable community leaders to overcome divisive emotions and strengthen community cohesion. His upcoming book addresses current divisiveness within American society.
